Characteristics

Leaves opposite: upper cauline (6)20–45 x 0.5–3.5 mm., linear, sparsely appressed hispid-scabrid, 1-nerved; lower cauline to sub-basal leaves 20–45 x (2.5)3.5–7 mm., linear-lanceolate to obovate-lanceolate, 1-nerved, entire or occasionally with 1–5 coarse teeth, slightly hispid especially beneath to subglabrous.

Corolla purple or lilac; tube 10–10.5 mm. long, cylindric but widening at mouth, subglabrous to long-pilose abaxially without, throat long pilose; limb 6.5–9 mm. in diam.; lobes 3–6 x 2–4.5 mm., broadly obovate to oblong, very unequal.
Annual herb 12–36 cm. tall, erect, stems simple or branched with branches arising in axils of most cauline leaves, sparsely appressed hispid; branches mostly with terminal inflorescences, spreading.
Bracts 5–6 x 5.5–6 mm., rhombic to reniform-rhombic, shortly acuminate or not, glabrous, ciliate, prominently strongly parallel-nerved, concave.
Bracteoles (3.5)5.5–6.5 x 2–3 mm., lanceolate-subobovate, long acuminate, somewhat inwardly curved, concave, keeled, glabrous, ciliate.
Calyx 7–9 mm. long, 5-lobed, nerved, glabrous to subglabrous; lobes 1.75–2 mm. long, lanceolate, acute, short hispid-ciliate.
Spikes 8–20 x 8–15 mm., with flowers compacted, lower flowers not becoming lax or remote on fruiting.
