Calyx 6–6.5(9) mm. long, 7–8-nerved, deeply divided on upper side, glabrous to subglabrous below on tube, 4-lobed; lobes 2–2.5 mm. long, ovate-lanceolate to lanceolate-acuminate, shortly pilose, ciliate.
Bracts c. 4.5–5.5(7.5) x 1.5–2.5 mm., ovate to ovate-lanceolate, acute to acuminate, pilose especially on three raised dark nerves, densely ciliate.
Leaves 30–45 x 1.5–4 mm., opposite, linear to linear-lanceolate, acute, entire, shortly hispid-pubescent, scabrid, 1-nerved.
Bracteoles 3–4(5.5) x 0.6–1 mm., lanceolate, acute, pilose, somewhat keeled, ciliate.
Spikes terminal, 3–9(12) cm. long, slender, cylindric, densely flowered or less so.
Annual herb, 25–40 cm. tall, erect, branched, short, hispid-pubescent.
Capsule c. 6 x 1.25 mm., oblong-cylindric.
Style 2–2.5 mm. long.
