Characteristics

Annual herb, 16–30 cm. or more tall, erect; stem woody, much branched or more rarely simple, arising from thickened woody base, bifariously, minutely pubescent, branches leafy throughout.

Corolla pinkish-mauve or white; tube (7)10–11 mm. long, glabrous without, throat sparsely long pilose; limb 8–10.5 mm. in diam.; lobes 4–6.5 x 3–4 mm., obovate to oblong, unequal.
Leaves 12–20 x 2–4.5 mm., opposite, linear-lanceolate, acute, glabrous to somewhat glossy, 1-nerved with small, leafy branches arising in axils.
Calyx (5)7–9.5 mm. long, 5-nerved, 4-lobed, glabrous; lobes 1.5–2 mm. long, narrowly ovate-acuminate, shortly ciliate.
Inflorescence of few-flowered spikes or spicate clusters, much shortly branched.
Bracts 5.5–7.5(8) x 2–3 mm., ovate to oblong-lanceolate, glabrous, ciliate.
Bracteoles 4–5 x 0.5–1 mm., linear-lanceolate, glabrous.
