Characteristics

Leaves: cauline opposite to subopposite, 2–3 pairs only, 12–40 x 1–3(8) mm., oblong-linear to linear, obtuse, 1-nerved, white hirsute-scabrid; basal leaves 17–40 x 10–25 mm., elliptic-oblong to broadly ovate or subcircular, obtuse, entire to crenate, hirsute-scabrid above, pale brown hispid-scabrid beneath especially on major nerves, 3–5-nerved.

Spikes 8–30 mm. long, to c. 8 mm. wide, flowers crowded or compact, somewhat quadrangular, occasionally base of spike lax with flowers of lowest internode c. 45 mm. distant from next above.
Annual herbs, 12–44 cm. tall, erect; stems simple, rarely branched, slender, white to fawn sparingly patent to antrorse hirsute, denser at base.
Corolla blue; tube 4.5–5.5(8) mm. long, pilose without, densely so at throat; limb 3–3.5(8) mm. in diam.; lobes 1.5–2(4) x 1–2(3) mm., obovate.
Calyx 4.5–5.5 mm. long, pilose, 5-lobed; lobes 0.8–1.5(2.5) mm. long, unequal, subulate.
Bracteoles (2)3.5–4.5 x (0.25)0.6 mm., linear to subulate, pilose.
