Vine or spreading shrub, to 3 m high, puberulous; hairs simple, straight. Spines recurved, c. 2 mm long, mostly absent from adult branches. Leaves ovate to elliptic, obtuse 4–10 cm long, 2.5–7.5 cm wide; base truncate to acute; veins 6–9 pairs; reticulation prominent, more so below; midrib raised below; surfaces somewhat glossy above, dull below; usually drying with pink tones; petiole 1–2 cm long. Inflorescence solitary, axillary towards end of branches. Buds globose and pointed, not ribbed. Sepals to 2.5 cm long, outer pair puberulous, inner pair glabrous. Petals to 3 cm long, hairy at base, white. Stamens c. 100. Gynophore c. 5 cm long, glabrous; ovary ovoid, c. 5 mm long, glabrous; placentas 4. Fruit globose, 4–5 cm diam., smooth. Seeds numerous; axis through attachment c. 8 mm long.
