Characteristics

Shrub, usually dense, to c. 2 m high, sometimes climbing; twigs densely hairy with simple hairs. Spines variable, 2 mm long, acicular, straight to recurved. Leaves small, elliptic to sub-orbicular, rounded to slightly notched, to 25 mm long, glabrescent; base rounded; midrib sub-prominent; veins 2–4 pairs; sessile or on petiole to 1.5 mm long. Flowers solitary or serial, usually paired; pedicels 1–1.5 cm long. Sepals c. 6–8 mm long, 3–4 mm wide, equal, almost glabrous, the margins woolly. Petals 9–13 mm long, 4–5 mm wide, glabrous or with woolly margins, white to cream. Stamens 19–22, equal to gynophore. Gynophore 14–25 mm long, glabrous; ovary ovoid, c. 2.5 mm long, glabrous; placentas 4. Fruit succulent, globose to sub-cylindrical, 7–25 mm diam. Seeds 1–15; axis through attachment c. 3 mm long.
