Annual to short-lived perennial herb, 5-50 cm high. Stems 1-few, erect or ascending, simple or sparsely branched. Rosette leaves numerous, petiolate, imparipinnatipartite to coarsely dentate, oblanceolate in outline, 3-15 cm long; cauline leaves rather few, smaller, oblong to lanceolate, undivided (lower leaves sometimes lyrate-pinnatifid), sagittate and clasping, coarsely to finely distantly dentate or entire. Stem and leaves with simple and branched hairs. Racemes dense, with numerous small flowers, in fruit elongate, loose, sparsely hairy or glabrous; pedicels spreading to divaricate, 5-20 mm long, Sepals green, mostly pubescent, oblong (sometimes with a tinge of purple), c. 1.5 mm long. Petals white, clawed, distinctly exceeding sepals, 1.8-3 mm long. Silicula obtriangular, with straight or slightly concave margins, ± emarginate, 5-10 mm long, 2.5-8 mm broad; style c. 0.3 mm long. Seeds reddish brown, oblong, 0.8-1 by c. 0.4 mm, minutely verru cose.
Plants mostly sparsely to densely pubescent, trichomes sessile, 3-5-rayed, stellate (base of plant often mixed with much longer, simple ones). Stems (0.2-)1-5 (-7) dm. Basal leaves: petiole 0.5-4(-6) cm; blade oblong or oblanceolate, (0.5-)1.5-10(-15) cm × 2-25(-50) mm, base cuneate or attenuate, apex acute or acuminate. Cauline leaves: blade narrowly oblong, lanceolate, or linear, 1-5.5(-8) cm × 1-15(-20) mm, base sagittate, amplexicaul, or, rarely, auriculate. Fruiting pedicels usually straight, (0.3-)0.5-1.5(-2) cm, glabrous. Flowers: sepals green or reddish, 1.5-2 × 0.7-1 mm (margins membranous); petals (1.5-)2-4(-5) × 1-1.5 mm; filaments 1-2 mm; anthers to 0.5 mm. Fruits (0.3-)0.4-0.9(-1) cm × (2-)3-7(-9) mm, base cuneate, apex emarginate or truncate; valves each with subparallel lateral veins; style 0.2-0.7 mm. Seeds brown, 0.9-1.1 × 0.4-0.6 mm. 2n = 32.
Annual herb. Stem erect, little-to much-branched above, (2)-15-30-(80) cm tall. Lvs and stems with spreading simple hairs and sparse to dense appressed stellate hairs. Lvs not lobed to runcinate-pinnatifid, very variable in shape, shallowly dentate or rarely subentire; lower lvs petiolate, (0.4)-5-15 × (0.2)-2-5 cm; upper lvs with sagittate or amplexicaul lobes at base, smaller, becoming entire. Racemes (2)-5-20-(45) cm long; pedicels erecto-patent at flowering, spreading at fruiting. Sepals glabrous or sparsely hairy, green or pinkish, 1-1.5 × 0.6-0.8 mm. Petals white, 2-2.5 × 0.7-1 mm, sometimes reduced or 0. Silicle narrowly to broadly obtriangular, emarginate, 5-10 × 4-7 mm; valves sharply keeled, reticulately veined, greenish brown; style c. 0.5 mm long. Seeds pale brown, c. 1 × 0.5 mm.
Slender erect annual herbs up to 45 cm high, simple or branched. Indumentum variable: stems and leaves with appressed branched and spreading simple hairs; inflorescence glabrous or very thinly hairy. Basal leaves rosulate, 4-16 cm long, oblanceolate, petiolate, entire, dentate or pinnatipartite, the lobes short, broad, rounded or acute, entire or lobulate. Stem leaves few, smaller, oblong-lanceolate, entire or remotely denticulate, sagittate, amplexicaul. Racemes dense in flower, lax in fruit. Sepals c. 1.5 mm long, green. Petals 1.8-3 mm long, clawed, white. Siliculae on almost horizontally-spreading pedicels 0.5-1.7 cm long, 6-9 mm long, 4-8 mm broad, obcordate-triangular, emarginate, lateral margins almost straight; style less than 0.5 mm long. Seeds up to 12 per locule, 0.8-1 mm long.

Sparingly branched annual or winter-annual 1–6 dm; basal lvs oblong, 5–10 cm, pinnatilobate; cauline lvs much smaller, lanceolate to linear, entire or denticulate, auriculate; racemes becoming much-elongate; pedicels at maturity divaricate, 1–2 cm; sep 2 mm; pet 1.5–4 mm; fr triangular-obcordate, with straight to slightly concave or slightly convex margins, 4–8 mm; 2n=16, 32. Probably native to s. Europe, now a cosmopolitan and ubiquitous weed. (C. gracilis; C. rubella; etc.)

Style 0.25 mm long. Silicula 6–9 mm long, 4–9 mm wide, triangular; valves keeled, net-veined; pedicels 8–17 mm long, spreading. Seeds 0.7–2.5 mm long, ovoid.
A cabbage family herb. It is an annual plant or it can take 2 years to complete its life cycle. The stem is erect. It grows to 60 cm high. It has a rosette of leaves near the base. The leaves vary in shape and are toothed along the edge. The upper leaves are smaller, sword shaped and without stalks. The flowers are white. They are in clusters at the ends of branches. The fruit is a flat, triangular, pod.
