Cultivation

Origin: in Santa Fe Springs, Los Angeles County, Calif., by Lawrence Holmes, California Carob Plantations. Introd. in 1922. Selection made from a wild tree in 1920; original tree still alive in 1946. Tree: spreading; precocious and alternate bearer; flower perfect. An excellent self-fertile variety on coastal foothills. Fruit: large, up to 7 inches long; slightly curved, thin; good sugar content, 47.6%; flavor very good; harvested during September and first 10 days in October; immune to worms.
