Characteristics

Rootstock producing a tuft of fleshy roots. Stem perennial, succulent, capable of producing auxiliary tufts of roots from nodes in contact with soil, rambling, twining up to 2 m and more in length, leafless, glabrous. Leaves rudimentary on terminal growth, soon deciduous, lanceolate, up to about 3 mm long. Flowers 2-4 together, extra-axillary, developed successively; pedicels 6-15 mm long. Sepals lanceolate, 3-5 mm long. Corolla 50-70 mm long; tube straight or slightly curved, 35-50 mm long, with subglobose basal inflation up to about 20 mm diam. and 22 mm long, narrowed to 12-13 mm diam. above, cylindric up to the mouth, pale green, with narrow purple band round mouth of inflation within, with long hairs mainly round mouth and above inflation; lobes lanceolate from deltoid base, 10-20 mm long, replicate, curved, connivent and connate at tips, mainly bright green. Corona basin-or saucer-shaped at base, equally or sub-equally 10-toothed (5 x 2) with teeth deltoid, ±1 mm long, hairy on inner surface; inner lobes arising from basal tube, filiform, up to 5 mm long, slightly incumbent, erect.
More
Twining or scrambling, succulent geophyte. Stems perennial, 0.3-2.0 m long, almost leafless, rooting at nodes. Leaves subsucculent, rudimentary and fugaceous, lanceolate, 2-3 mm long. Inflorescences sessile. Flowers 2-4 lateral at nodes; pedicels 6-15 mm long. Corolla cylindrical, 50-70 x 12-13 mm, fused for 3/4 of its length into curved tube, 35-50 mm long with basal subglobose inflation ± 20 mm in diam., ± 22 mm long, often papillate inside at mouth and constriction; lobes lanceolate, 10-20 x 5.5-7.0 mm, connivent into cage around mouth, margins slightly revolute; pale green with narrow purple longitudinal stripes. Gynostegial column stipitate. Corona: interstaminal corona lobes erect, fused basally to staminal corona forming a continuous, shallow, 10-toothed cup surrounding staminal column; staminal corona lobes long, erect and filiform, greatly overtopping style-stigma-head, mingled apically. Anthers without anther appendages.
Succulent climber to 1 m with finely striate, grey-green stems 2-4 mm diam.; sap clear. Leaves 3-7 mm, caducous. Flowers 50-70 mm long, tube cylindrical above and at least 10 mm diam. Throughout, cream-coloured to greenish with fine green veins outside, petals narrowing to tips, without cilia.
A vine that keeps growing from year to year. It climbs 1 m high and spreads 1 m wide. The stem is slender and twining. It does not have leaves. The flowers are light green and tube shaped. They are 3 cm long and swollen at the base. It has expanding dark green lobes that unite at the tip.
Succulent twining perennial herb. Leaves rudimentary or absent. Corolla lobes narrowed evenly to united apex; tube ample, remaining more than 10 mm in diameter above basal inflation. Flowers pale green with narrow purple band around mouth of inflation, lobes bright green.
