Characteristics

Perennial herb. Tuber 20-50 mm diam., somewhat depressed. Stems 1-several, prostrate, 50-150(1000) mm long, with internodes 10-20(-30) mm long, rarely rebranched, sparsely and minutely pubescent. Leaves broadly ovate to ovate, sometimes somewhat cordate, narrower and smaller as season progresses, sparsely pubescent, shortly petiolate. Flowers solitary (2), extra-axillary; pedicels slender, ±10 mm long. Sepals linear-lanceolate, 3-4 mm long. Corolla about 10 mm long, 17-20 mm diam.; tube shallowly basin-or saucer-shaped, about 7 mm diam., ±3 mm deep, parchment-coloured, with flesh-coloured markings extending to base of lobes; lobes lanceolate, rarely triangular, 6-7 mm long, with margins somewhat recurved, velvety-maroon, or scarlet to yellowish red, usually becoming greenish yellow on tip. Corona about 2 mm high, shortly tubular at base, forming 5 pockets with outer margin V-shaped, confluent laterally and forming square shoulders to inner lobes; inner lobes oblong, incumbent on anthers, dark brown. Pollinia with translucent inner margin for the entire length; caudicels delicate; carrier shortly winged. Follicles somewhat spindle-shaped, tapering, with curved tip, 30-40 mm long.
