Characteristics

Perennial herb. Tuber 60-100(-150) diam., depressed. Stem simple or occasionally branched from base or rarely from above, slender, up to 700 mm long, pubescent with minute reflexed hairs, internodes 20-60 mm long. Leaves subsessile, linear, rarely linear-lanceolate, 40-90(-120) x 1-2(-5) mm, acute, margins strongly incurved, causing concave upper side, minutely pubescent with stiff hairs on lower surface, more thinly so above. Flowers 1-4, axillary or extra-axillary, developing successively; pedicels filiform, 7-10 mm long. Sepals linear-lanceolate, about 2 mm long. Corolla 1-1.7 mm long, with slender beak in bud, lobed almost to base; lobes united at tips, linear-filiform from a shortly ovate-lanceolate base, with recurved margins, adpressed pubescent on back, variably ciliate with long soft white hairs. Corona with 5 deeply bifid outer lobes about 2 mm long, reddish at base, green above, dorsally white-pubescent; inner lobes spathu-1ate, sometimes emarginate, about 3 mm long, incumbent-erect above staminal column, blackish-red. Pollinia pellucid along inner margin, shortly attached to wingless carrier. Follicles slender, subfusiform, up to about 130 mm long.
