Perennial, geophytic herb, 50-100 mm high; tuber depressed-globose. Stems 1 or 2, spreading to decumbent; shortly hairy. Leaves petiolate; blade ovate to ovate-elliptic, 15-20 x 10-15 mm, hairy on both surfaces or only on lower surface, sometimes appearing silvery. Flowers: corolla < 5 mm in diameter, with short broad tube, rotate, with ring of long hairs around corona; corona producing a campanulate tube, tube with light violet hairs, lobes dark violet-black and with greenish yellow tips; Dec.-Feb. Fruit a follicle.
