Characteristics

Perennial herb. Tuber compressed, 25-30 mm diameter. Stem simple, slender, up to 30 cm long and 1-1.5 mm diameter at base, pubescent with minute spreading hairs, light green, internodes 35-45 mm long. Leaves erect, sessile, linear to narrowly elliptic, 15-25 x 1.5-2 mm, acute, margins slightly incurved, minutely pubescent with long hairs on lower surface, more thinly so above. Flowers solitary, axillary. Bracts inconspicuous, curved, linear, 1 mm long. Pedicels slender, 25-30 mm long. Calyx-lobes reflexed, light purple, linear-lanceolate, 1 mm long, dorsally pubescent, acute. Corolla (in bud) with a broad ovate to round grey-green base and long straight terete beak. Corolla (mature) 10-12 mm long, lobed almost to base; lobes grey-green, purple in lower part, filiform from an ovate base, margins recurved at base, pubescent on back with spreading hairs, segments cohering at tips to form a cage like structure. Corona purple, 1.5 mm diam. Outer corona lobes 0.5 mm high, bifid, lobes falcately curving; inner corona lobes alternating with outer lobes, 0.7 mm broad at base, 0.2 mm broad at apex, incumbent on backs of anthers, glabrous. Follicles paired, slender, subfusiform 4-7 cm long, 4-5 mm diameter minutely pubescent.
