Species

Angiosperms > Gentianales > Apocynaceae > Ceropegia

Characteristics

Perennial herb. Tuber ±35 mm diam., depressed, 20 mm thick. Stems 2-3, very slender, ±50 mm tall, less than 1 mm diam., minutely puberulous. Leaves linear, 10-12 mm long, ±1.25 mm broad, with few hairs. Flowers solitary, lateral at nodes; pedicel very slender, ±12 mm long, glabrous. Sepals broadly triangular to lanceolate, 1 mm long, glabrous. Corolla ±3 mm long, ±4.5(6) mm diam., divided J-f to base; tube at first 1.25 mm deep, 2 mm diam., white around base; lobes broadly triangular, ±1.5(-2) x 1.5 mm, recurved to pedicel and becoming button-shaped, with the corona prominently exposed, purple-maroon, with spaced long, white cilia on margin, otherwise glabrous. Corona campanulate, ±1.5 mm diam., slightly higher than staminal column, forming 5 deep pubescent pockets, with outer margin emarginate or very shortly and obtusely bilobed, pale yellow with maroon mottling; inner lobes maroon-black, arising from inner wall of tube, forming narrow partitions between outer corona-tube and staminal column, pressed to bade of anthers; staminal column 1 mm diam. Pollinia ±0.2 mm long; carrier minute.
More
Dwarf, perennial geophyte. Stems 2 or 3, erect, 30-60 mm high; produced from depressed tuber. Leaves linear, 10-12 x 1.25 mm, narrowing into short 1.5-2.5 mm petioles. Flowers solitary, produced at upper nodes; pedicels very slender, ± 12 mm long. Corolla divided for 1/2-2/3. tube ± 1.25 mm deep, white at base, lobes broadly triangular, ± 1.5 x 1.5 mm, recurved to meet pedicel (exposing gynostegial column, purple-maroon with many white hairs along margins. Corona: interstaminal corona lobes fused to form a thin wall around staminal column, slightly taller than staminal column, upper margin emarginate or obtusely bilobed, pale yellow, mottled maroon; staminal corona lobes fused distally to interstaminal coronal curtain, pressed to anther bases proximally so partitioning the circumgynostegial trough into 5 hair-filled pockets; maroon to black.
