Characteristics

Perennial herb. Tuber up to about 50 mm diam., compressed, ±20 mm thick. Stem simple, erect, up to about 30 mm tall or spreading up to 100 mm in shade, sparsely pubescent. Leaves more or less spathulate, oblong-elliptic to suborbicular, up to 20 mm long, sparsely pubescent above, glabrescent below, crisped ciliate on margin; midrib prominent below, purple-tinged; petioles 8-16 mm long, grooved down upper surface. Flowers 2-3, on short peduncles, usually partially hidden by leaves; pedicels 4-5 mm long, reddish. Sepals lanceolate, 1.5-2 mm long, with few scattered white hairs. Corolla about 7.5 mm long, divided to about 1/3 its length; tube campanulate, 4-5 mm long, 5 mm diam., greenish cream outside with red venation, maroon or purple within, with greenish cream streaks and sparse, long, white, bristle-like hairs; lobes triangular, slightly spreading with short, white, bristle-like hairs above and densely ciliate. Corona purplish maroon, about 1 mm high, 1.5-2 mm diam., forming 5 pouches with outer margin 2-horned and with spreading hairs; inner lobes oblong to subquadrate, incumbent on anthers. Follicles fusiform, up to about 40 mm long.
