Characteristics

Perennial herb. Tuber 20-30 mm diam., flattened-depressed on upper side, rounded below. Stems 1 or 2, rarely branched above, 20-30 mm high, slender, glabrous or shortly pubescent. Leaves in 3-5 pairs, shortly petiolate, more or less oblong-elliptic, 10-30 x 5-10 mm, glabrous or sparsely and minutely pubescent above. Flowers 1-2 lateral at nodes, opening successively; pedicels slender, up to about 10 mm long. Sepals linear-lanceolate, 3 mm long. Corolla campanulate, 8-9 mm long, 15 mm diam., divided less than halfway; tube 2-3 mm deep, glabrous, parchment-coloured within with subcircular, broken, dark red bands; lobes triangular, 4 mm long, velvety, maroon or chocolate-purple. Corona about 2 mm high, 3.5 mm diam., tubular below, with outer lobes forming pockets with emarginate or 2-toothed outer margin, purplish-maroon, confluent with inner lobes; inner lobes oblong; incumbent on staminal column. Pollinia about 0.25 mm long, with very short connective or sessile on the carrier.
