Characteristics

Perennial herb. Tuber subglobose, 20-30 mm diam. Stems 1-3, slender, prostrate, sparsely branched, up to about 0.1 m long (0.2 m in cult.). Leaves shortly petiolate, ovate to lanceolate, up to about 15 mm long, glabrous. Flowers 1-2 together, slightly lateral at nodes; pedicels ±10 mm long, ascending. Sepals oblong-lanceolate to lanceolate, 2-3 mm long. Corolla slightly bulged in bud, 10 mm long, divided to about halfway; tube cylindric-campanulate, ±5 mm long, ±5 mm diam. with flattish base, slightly fluted below sinuses, making the mouth obtusely 5-angled, white within and finely purple-mottled; lobes triangular-ovate, ±5 mm long, spreading-recurved, concave on upper side towards base, replicate towards apex, dark red or maroon, with apex white-mucronulate. Corona campanulate, 2.5-3 mm deep, 4 mm diam., overtopping staminal column, forming 5 deep pockets with outer margin incurved-toothed, confluent with inner lobes; inner lobes short, pressed to base of anthers.
