Species

Angiosperms > Gentianales > Apocynaceae > Ceropegia

Characteristics

Rootstock producing a tuber, sometimes with a few auxiliary tubers. Tubers sub-globose, 15-40 mm diam. Stems annual, subsucculent, glabrous, 1-4, prostrate or straggling, rarely showing signs of twining, up to about 0.2 m long. Leaves sessile or subsessile, from nearly circular towards base narrowing to linear-lanceolate above, 10-20 mm long, 3-10 mm broad, fleshy, grooved down face. Flowers 1-3, extra-axillary, opening successively, sometimes shortly pedunculate; pedicels up to about 10 mm long. Sepals linear-lanceolate, 3-3.5 mm long. Corolla 20-28 mm long, usually very slightly curved; tube 15-20 mm long, with subglobose basal inflation ±5 mm diam., narrowing to 2.5-3 mm, spreading to 5-6 mm diam. at mouth, glabrous outside and inside, finely longitudinally ribbed within inflation; lobes 5-8 mm long, ±3.5 mm broad at base, contracted to 2.5 mm near middle, united at apex for 2 mm, forming small canopy ±4 mm diam., apiculate, shortly pubescent within margins, slightly replicate. Corona arising slightly above base of staminal column, forming 5 shallow pockets with entire outer margins confluent with base of inner lobes; inner lobes incumbent-erect, narrowly oblong-elliptic, 2.5 mm long, somewhat fleshy. Pollinia subglobose, ±0.25 mm diam., with narrow, amber-coloured inner margin somewhat acute at upper end.
