Characteristics

Succulent, geophytic creeper. Stem solitary, 1-3 m long; produced from clustered, fleshy, prostrate, roots; sparsely branched, often rooting at nodes, internodes 4-8 mm long. Leaves ovate-elliptic to orbicular, succulent, 16-40 x 13-25 mm, apex usually apiculate; petioles up to 10 mm long. Inflorescences sessile or with stout peduncle up to 10 mm long. Flowers 1-3 produced at nodes; pedicels stout, 30 mm long. Corolla cylindrical, 55-80 mm long; tube pale greenish white with purple dots and splotches, these becoming more intense towards the mouth, softly hairy inside, usually gently curved, 40-55 mm long with a long, 5-angled, basal inflation 13-17 x 5-7 mm, then narrowing to 3 mm in diam., slowly expanding into a wide mouth of 15 mm diam.; lobes ligulate, margins completely revolute to folded, forming a beak-like or pyramid-shaped cage covering the mouth. Corona: interstaminal corona lobes adnate forming a shallow, sometimes fleshy, dish-like structure; staminal corona lobes fused basally to interstaminal corona, erect, ligulate, ± 4, connivent near top flexing out at apex; pale yellow green.

Leaves fleshy, glabrous, petiole rarely up to 10 mm long; blade ovate-elliptic or orbicular, up to 40 x 25 mm, acute or apiculate. Peduncles arising singly, extra-axillary, up to 10 mm long, stout, 1-3-flowered, developed successively; pedicels up to 30 mm long, 2-2.5 mm thick. Sepals linear-lanceolate, 4-6 mm long. Corolla 55-80 mm long; tube 40-55 mm long, with a slightly 5-angled basal inflation 13-17 mm long, 5-7 mm diam., then contracted to 3 mm and expanding gradually to about 15 mm diam. at mouth, softly hairy within inflation, pale greenish white with purple dots and splotches, intensified towards mouth. Corona united at base, forming 5 shallow pockets with slightly spreading outer margin and confluent with base of inner lobes; inner lobes incumbent-erect, linear, 4 mm long, pale yellowish green.
