Characteristics

Perennial herb. Rootstock with fascicled, fusiform roots. Stem 1(-2), up to about 0.15 m tall, richly branched throughout, with branches angular or ribbed, glabrous or sometimes sparsely hairy. Leaves subsessile; blade linear-oblong to lanceolate, sometimes with few hairs mainly on margin and midrib below. Flowers in fascicles of 2-4, extra-axillary; pedicels up to about 5 mm long. Sepals lanceolate, ±2 mm long. Corolla 3-4 mm long, divided nearly to base, without tube, white to pale yellow or greenish; lobes not greatly spreading, ovate-oblong, replicate, ciliate near base, with papilla-1ike hairs. Corona arising about 0.5 mm up staminal column, saucer-shaped at base, producing five 2-toothed outer lobes, giving effect of 10 teeth, sometimes teeth undeveloped, pubescent; inner lobes linear, occasionally bifid, incumbent on backs of anthers. Follicles slender, smooth, subparallel, up to about 100 mm long.
