Characteristics

Perennial, herbaceous geophyte. Stems 1 or 2, erect, 200-450 mm high, tubers clustered, fleshy, fusiform. Leaves in upper part of stem, spreading-erect, linear to elliptic oblong, 20-40 x 3-12 mm, midrib abaxially pronounced, subcoriaceous, subsessile. Flowers 2-4 at upper nodes, sessile, somewhat pendulous; pedicels 2-6 mm long. Corolla white, tipped pink, light purple or pale greenish yellow, urceolate-like; lobes free, fused at base into shallow cup, 0.75-1.00 mm deep, ovate or oblong, 2.8-4.5 x 2 mm, apex pointed, margins revolute, inner surfaces keeled, glabrous on both surfaces. Gynostegial column shortly stipitate. Corona: interstaminal corona lobes dorso-ventrally flattened and fused at base to produce shallow tube, free above, deeply cleft to give 2 lobulate appendages ± 0.75 mm high; staminal corona lobes fused at base to interstaminal corona tube, linear to oblong-linear, 0.50-0.75 mm long, incumbent on anthers. Perennial herb. Rootstock with fascicle of fusiform roots. Stems 1-2, unbranched or sparingly branched about the middle, up to about 0.45 m tall, glabrous. Leaves ascending, subsessile, very variable, linear, oblong, ovate-oblong or elliptic-oblong, 20-40 x 3-12 mm, scabrous on midrib below and usually minutely ciliate. Flowers in fascicles of 2-6(1); pedicels 2-6 mm long. Sepals lanceolate, 2 mm long. Corolla up to about 4 mm long, divided almost to base; lobes suberect, ovate or oblong with recurved margin, keeled down inner surface, ciliate with minute papilla-like hairs, white-tipped with pink, light purple or pale greenish yellow. Corona arising i up staminal column, outer lobes 5, bilobulate, appearing 10-1obed, ± equalling staminal column, ciliate and usually with scattered papilla-like hairs; inner lobes ± linear, incumbent on backs of anthers.
