Characteristics

Perennial herb. Tuber 30-60 mm diam., depressed. Stem 1, sparsely branched above, up to about 0.15 m tall, shortly pubescent or glabrescent. Leaves narrowly linear, 20-50 x 1.5-5 mm, slightly folded upwards, subsessile, midrib prominent on lower surface. Flowers 2-3 together, extra-axillary; pedicels 3-8 mm long. Sepals triangular, 1.5-2 mm long. Corolla 12-20 mm long, minutely pubescent on outer surface; tube ± narrowly campanulate, 5-8 mm long, up to 7 mm diam. at mouth, maroon within and glabrous; lobes united at tips, with ovate-lanceolate base, becoming linear above with reflexed margins, 9-14 mm long. Corona yellow, cupular, ±1.5 mm high, slightly incurved towards rim, 2 mm diam., with rim minutely 2-toothed, alternating with inner lobes; inner lobes arising from within base of tube and about half its height, oblong, obtuse, incumbent on base of filaments. Pollinia about 0.25 mm long, slightly narrower, translucent on upper half of inner margin, attached by short, delicate caudicles to wingless carrier. Follicles sub-fusiform, ±70 x 50 mm, light green with darker longitudinal streaks.
