Characteristics

Rootstock producing a tuber. Tuber ±30 mm broad, 20 mm high. Stem forming slender neck underground 20-30 mm long, annual stem 80-120 mm tall, simple or sparsely branched, at first puberulous, glabrous with age, densely leafy, with internodes ±5 mm long. Leaves erect-spreading, subsessile, glabrous, narrowly linear, 40-60 x 2-3 mm, with revolute margin. Flowers solitary, extra-axillary; pedicel about 10 mm long. Sepals linear-lanceolate, 3-5 mm long. Corolla 45-70 mm long, tubular in lower half, spreading horizontally first then bent upright more or less at right-angles; tube 20-30 mm long, 3-4 mm diam. at base, broadening to 6-7 mm diam. at throat, glabrous outside, more or less brownish purple with greenish stripes from sinuses to base, sparsely villous in the upper part within; lobes linear-filiform from an ovate base, slightly expanded at the united tips, 25-40 mm long, villous within towards base and ciliate with purple hairs, otherwise glabrous. Corona cupular at base with outer lobes subquadrate, minutely 3-lobuled, 1.5 mm long; inner lobes membranous, incumbent-erect-spreading, 2.5 mm long.
