Characteristics

Perennial herb. Tuber ±50 mm diam. Stems 2-3, prostrate, rarely branched, up to about 250 mm long, with internodes 15-20 mm long, red. Leaves petiolate, broadly ovate to subcordate, up to 20 mm long and 20 mm broad, apiculate, with few short hairs mainly along the margin and on veins, dark green; petiole 10-15 mm long. Flowers 2-3(4) on rudimentary peduncle, extra-axillary, developing successively. Sepals linear-lanceolate, about 2 mm long, with few long hairs. Corolla about 4.5 mm long, shortly tubular, glabrous, dark purple; tube broadly campanulate or saucer-shaped, 1.5-2 mm long, 3 mm wide; lobes triangular-ovate, 3 mm long, 1.5 mm broad at base, glabrous. Corona yellow, outer lobes 1.5 mm long, bilobulate and with lobules falcately curving behind inner lobes; inner lobes arising from within outer lobes, incumbent on backs of anthers. Pollinia subglobose, 0.25 mm long, with narrow, translucent inner margin, subsessile; carrier with small, narrow wings.
