Characteristics

Basal leaves subrosulate; lamina 20 x 10 mm., oblong-ovate, obtuse at the apex, narrowed to the base; the cauline ones, 8–50 x 0.5–2.5 mm., sessile, linear-lanceolate, c. 8 pairs, 1-nerved.

Flowers pedicellate, pink mauve or bright red in 1–3-flowered cymes, arranged in terminal lax panicles up to 18 cm. long, bracteate; bracts 3–8 x 0.8–1 mm.; pedicels 0.5–2.5 cm. long.
Stamens inserted about 1 mm. below the throat of the corolla; filaments 2 mm. long; anthers 1–1.5 mm. long, pallid yellow, slightly spirally twisted.
Corolla tube 4–5 mm. long; lobes 5–6 x 2.5 mm., oblong-ovate, subobtuse or subacute at the apex.
Ovary 5 mm. long, cylindric, narrowing into a style c. 3 mm. long; stigma bilobed.
Calyx tube 1.5–2 mm. long; lobes 3–3.5 mm. long, triangular, acute.
Capsule 6–7 x 2.5–3 mm., cylindric to cylindric-ovoid.
Seeds 0.3 mm. in diam.; testa faveolate.
