Annual herb, spreading and branched, up to 3 dm. tall.. Stems beset with short stiff glandular hairs.. Leaves petiolate, 3–5-foliolate; leaflets linear-lanceolate to obovate, up to 9 mm. long, 1–4 mm. wide, glabrous or nearly so above, scattered glandular-pubescent on the lower surface and margins; petiole 2–20 mm. long.. Inflorescence racemose with a gradual transition from leaves to leafy bracts.. Sepals elliptic-lanceolate, 2–3 mm. long, usually glandular.. Petals 5–7.5 mm. long, yellow.. Stamens 6.. Gynophore up to 1 mm. long.. Capsules 3–8 mm. long, 2–3 mm. across, glandular, terminating in a very obvious persistent style, 3–4 mm. long.. In is a Mediterranean plant. It grows in sandy and stony soils. It grows from sea level to 1,300 m above sea level. It can grow in arid places.

It is used as a potherb and for flavouring.
