Characteristics

Herb or subshrub, branched, to c. 50 cm high, glandular-pubescent, unarmed. Leaves 5-foliolate reducing to simple above; petioles to 2.5 cm long; leaflets lanceolate, ovate or cuneate, mucronate, emarginate to acute to 2.5 cm long, entire; glandular-pubescent; base attenuate. Inflorescence a bracteate raceme; flowers zygomorphic. Sepals ovate to lanceolate, to 7 mm long, glandular-pubescent, purple. Petals 15–25 mm long; claw c. 2/3 length of petal; lamina ovate, yellow. Stamen 1, on adaxial side of flower, to 1.5 cm long; filament fused to form androgynophore; anther c. 2 mm long, revolute. Ovary glandular-pubescent. Siliqua either pendulous, linear, c. 2 cm long, 2 mm wide, or ovoid, c. 1 cm long, 4 mm wide; androgynophore 2–10 mm long; valves glandular-pubescent, not striate; style to 20 mm long. Seeds suborbicular, c. 1.7 mm diam., transversely rugose, cleft closed; aril absent.
