Characteristics

Herb or small shrub to 1 m high, glandular-pubescent, unarmed, aromatic. Leaves 3–5-foliolate reducing to simple above; petiole to 5 cm long; leaflets lanceolate to cuneate, emarginate to acute, to 4 cm long, entire, glandular-pubescent; base attenuate to cuneate. Inflorescence a bracteate raceme; flowers tending to be zygomorphic. Sepals linear-lanceolate, 7–12 mm long, glandular-pubescent. Petals 12–24 mm long; claw c. ⅓ of length, purple; lamina ovate, yellow. Stamens c. 15, unequal, free, the longest equal to or slightly shorter than the petals; anthers 1–2 mm long, recurved. Ovary sessile or almost so, glandular-pubescent. Siliqua linear, straight to slightly curved, erect to pendulous, 3–6 cm long, 2–3 mm wide; pedicels 6–15 mm long; valves longitudinal-striate, glandular-pubescent; style 6–10 mm long. Seeds suborbicular, 1–1.5 mm long, transversely rugose; cleft open, strongly arillate.
