Inflorescences terminal or axillary, the peduncle occasionally absent, the flowers disposed in a head; bracts and bracteoles small. Flowers 4-merous; calyx with the lobes narrow and elongate, persistent; corolla variable in color, infundibuliform, the mouth glabrous, the lobes valvate; stamens included or exserted, the anthers dorsifixed; ovary 2-celled, the ovules numerous in each locule, horizontal. Fruits baccate, ovoid or globose, shiny blue; seeds numerous, minute, somewhat angular.
