Epiphytic or lithophytic orchids, rarely terrestrial, forming large clumps with thin roots. Pseudobulbs crowded or well-spaced, conical to cylindrical. Leaves arising from the apex of pseudobulbs, single or paired, sessile or stalked, thin or leathery. Inflorescence racemose, single-flowered to multiflowered, thin, wiry, arching to pendulous, arising from the new growths or recently mature pseudobulbs, either from the base or between the leaves. Flowers small to large, in 2 ranks along the raceme; in native species each flower is supported by large, concave, papery bract. Sepals and petals overlap. Labellum 3-lobed, fixed to column apex, often with colourful blotches. Callus keeled. Column long, without a basal foot.
