Characteristics

Corm ovoid (4)6.4(10.2) mm in diameter; tunics brown, coriaceous and smooth. Cataphyll membranous, white, papery in texture at senescence. Leaves distichous, lanceolate, (100)133(155) x (7)9(11) mm, amplexicaule, green, apex apiculate, margin densely toothed. Hypsophylls cordate with similar texture to the nomophylls, (1.9)3(4.7) x (1)1.9(3) mm, green, margin with a very few papillae, apex mucronulate. Flowers subsessile, 1-4 per corm, odourless; perianth 7-17 mm long; tepal lamina deltoid, erect, apex acute, (3)4.9(8) x (3)4.9(7) mm, green pale, semi-transparent, with auricules embracing only the filament sides; claw (3.5) 6 (9) mm long, greenish-purple. Stamens inserted or semi-exserted; filaments cylindrical, (2)3.2(6) mm long, purple; anthers oval, (1.7)2.4(3) x (1)1.4(2.5) mm, reddish-purple; nectary circumbasal, purple, twofold wider than the center of the filament. Ovary subglobose, without keels along the carpels; style (2)4(5) mm long; stigma papillose, punctiform, purple. Capsule globose, dehiscent, (6.5) 10.8(15) x (5)9.5(14) mm. Seeds globose, (1.2)1.5(1.8) mm in diameter; testa dark brown, smooth and with a developed raphe. Abundant idioblasts present on leaves, tepals and capsule, identifiable in senescence as densely distributed red dots.
