Spikelets 1-flowered, narrowly elliptic, at length gaping, 4–6.5 mm. long, light green often tinged with purple, the rhachilla not produced beyond the floret; glumes subequal, a little longer than the lemma, the lower narrowly elliptic and (1–)3-nerved, the upper lanceolate-elliptic and 3-nerved; lemma 3.5–4.5 mm. long, 3-nerved, glabrous or appressedly pubescent, denticulately obtuse..
