Annual herb 30–60 cm high.. Stem branched or unbranched, angles very narrowly winged.. Leaves somewhat fleshy, ovate, ovate-lanceolate, elliptic to obovate, 2–25(–35) mm long, 1.3–10(–15) mm wide, ± acute to obtuse, base decurrent, margins revolute.. Inflorescences axillary, 2 flowers at each node, maturing acropetally.. Flower 4-merous, pinkish or white.. Calyx tube 1–2 mm long, teeth sharply triangular, ± 2 mm long, usually less than 0.5 mm wide, acuminate, membranous or hyaline at the margin.. Corolla tube 3.5–5 mm long; lobes ovate, 1.2–2 mm long, 0.3–0.4 mm wide, ± acute.. Filaments 0.4–5 mm long, inserted on the corolla tube; anthers 0.5–0.6 mm long, dorsifixed.. Ovary ellipsoid, 2.5–3.5 mm long, ± 1 mm diameter; style 1.3–2 mm long; stigma bilobed; lobes 0.3–0.6 mm long.. Capsule oblong, 3–4 mm long, 0.8–1.2 mm diameter.. Seeds numerous, sub-pyramidal to cylindrical to cuboid, ± 0.4 mm long, surface reticulate-pitted.. Fig. 8 (p. 29).
