Loosely tufted perennial.. Culms 60–150 cm. high, erect or spreading, up to 3 mm. in diameter.. Leaf-blades up to 75 cm. long and 5–14 mm. wide, flat or becoming convolute, stiff, setaceously acute.. Panicle ovate-oblong to oblong, 17–30 cm. long, loose or somewhat contracted, brownish.. Spikelets oblong, 4–6 mm. long, the rhachilla-internodes 0.2 mm. long; lower glume 3–4 mm. long, the upper 3.5–5 mm. long; lemmas narrowly oblong-ovate, 3–4 mm. long, pilose with hairs 0.5–1 mm. long near the margins, the tip entire or shortly and acutely bilobed; awn 3–6 mm. long; callus of the upper florets 1–1.5 mm. long, densely bearded with hairs up to 1.5 mm. long; anthers 2 mm. long..
