Characteristics

Erect, perennial herb to 40 cm tall, glabrous except inflorescence; stem flat, winged, 3-13 mm wide with a distinct rib on margin of each wing, sometimes constricted at nodes. Leaves sessile, linear-lanceolate to oblanceolate, entire or dentate; lamina 18-49 mm long, 3.5-16 mm wide. Flowers in panicles; inflorescence branches usually solitary, to 3-flowered, to 5 cm long; pedicel 3-3.5 mm long; bracteoles tomentose, 2.5-4 mm long, Sepals usually hidden by hairs, ovate-elliptic, 1-1.5 mm long. Corolla 12-16 mm long; hairs outside not appressed, type v, grey; wings 2.7-3.2 mm wide, smaller above auricle; calli to 4 per row. Ovary gibbous, ±tomentose, 2-2.5 mm long. Fruit orbicular, 3-4 mm diam, gibbous, compressed, wrinkled, hairy.
