Characteristics

Erect, branched subshrub to 70 cm tall, brownish or greyish tomentose. Leaves cauline, sessile or petiolate, ovate or obovate to orbicular, dentate, usually glabrescent above or with few large coarse hairs, always tomentose below; lamina 3-35 mm long, 6-19 mm wide; petiole 3-10 mm long. Flowers in leafless thyrses or spikes 13-28 cm long; bracteoles oblong, 0.5-1 mm long; pedicel to 0.5 mm long. Sepals c. 0.1 mm long, hidden beneath hairs. Corolla 5-7 mm long; hairs outside much-branched, not appressed, type i, greyish brown; wings to 0.5 mm, very small or obsolete above auricle, with an appendage below auricle; calli obsolete. Ovary 2-4 mm long. Fruit ellipsoidal to obovoid, c. 2 mm long.
