Erect perennial to 40 cm tall, ±tomentose-pubescent; rootstock thick, tufted. Leaves basal, obovate or elliptic, entire, glabrescent above, white-tomentose below, with conspicuous tuft of axillary hairs; lamina 3-7 cm long, 11-31 mm wide; petiole to 6 cm long. Flowers numerous, in loose thyrsoid heads elongating in fruiting stage to 12 cm long; bracteoles oblong, to 5 mm long; pedicel obsolete. Sepals minute, with conspicuous tuft of silky hairs to 3 mm long. Corolla 8-12 mm long; hairs outside silky, type ii, white; wings 2-4 mm wide, smaller above auricle; calli 5-8 in each row. Ovary 1-1.7 mm long. Fruit ellipsoidal, c. 2 mm long.
