Characteristics

Erect, perennial herb to 40 cm high, glabrous except flowers; stem flattened, with 2 wings and marginal ribs, 3-7 mm wide, usually constricted at nodes. Leaves sessile, linear or linear-oblong, contracted at base, entire; lamina 5-12 mm long, 1-1.6 mm wide. Flowers in panicles; inflorescence branches 1-3 together, 1-3-flowered, to 8 cm long; pedicel 1-1.5 mm long; bracteoles linear-oblong, 1.5-2 mm long. Sepals c. 2.5 mm long, obscured by hairs. Corolla 12-15 mm long; hairs outside appressed, type iv, dark grey; wings 2.5-2.7 mm wide, smaller above auricle; calli obsolete. Ovary gibbous, hairy as corolla, 1.7-2.2 mm long. Fruit orbicular, 2-3 mm diam., gibbous, compressed.
