Much-branched shrub or tree, up to ± 12 m.. Branches glabrous or glabrescent, minutely lenticellate; branchlets tomentose to velutinous, often densely so, often soon lenticellate.. Stipules narrowly triangular, 2–6 mm. long, hairy as branchlet, usually early caducous.. Petiole (2–)3–8(–9) mm. long, hairy as branchlet; blade usually coriaceous, elliptic to obovate or oblong, (4–)8–13(–17) × (2–)3–7(–9) cm., on flowering shoots or parts often considerably smaller on non-flowering ones, rounded to cuneate or sometimes obtuse at base, rounded-obtuse, sometimes acute or emarginate, or acuminate at apex, the acumen emarginate to acute, up to 0.5(–1) cm. long; usually tomentose to velutinous on both surfaces when young, more densely so, often felty, and usually longer persistent beneath, margin revolute or not, midrib impressed above, prominent beneath, main lateral nerves 4–6(–7) pairs; glands few, often hidden by the indumentum..
