Characteristics

Herb with fibrous roots. Stem erect or suberect, 10–30 mm long. Leaves many, crowded, the old ones persistent for some time; lamina narrowly elliptic, 6–7 mm long, on slightly flattened petiole 10–20 mm long; stipules 3-lobed, 4–8 mm long, the mid-lobe trifurcate with the segments sometimes fimbriate, the lateral lobes entire or 1–3–fimbriate. Scapes 2–8, 3–4 cm long, usually densely floccose, 5–8-flowered; pedicels 2–3 mm long. Calyx 6–7 mm long, densely red-hirsute, divided for 5–6 mm into ovate lobes, the margin entire or slightly irregular. Petals obovate, 6–8 mm long, red or bright orange. Styles 3, simple, subulate, 3–4 mm long, black or white.
