Characteristics

Dioecious shrub or small tree to 8 (–10) m high, glabrous. Leaves: lamina mostly 2.7–10 cm long and 0.4–5 cm wide, cuneate base, crenate margin, acute to rounded apex, coriaceous; secondary veins 4–9 pairs; petiole 4–10 mm long. Cymes axillary to leaves or cataphylls; peduncles longer in male than female; pedicels 2.5–5 mm long. Calyx unequally 4-lobed. Petals 4, broadly ovate, 2.3–2.7 mm long. Male flowers: disc 4-angled, centrally depressed, 1.6–1.8 mm wide; stamens 4, inserted on disc margin; filaments 0.7 mm long. Female flowers: disc slightly indented, 1.5–1.7 mm wide with 4 staminodes inserted on margin; ovary ovoid-conical, 2-locular; stigma entire. Exocarp thin, orange to orange-red; mesocarp fleshy; endocarp stone-like. Seed 1.
