Characteristics

Calyx tube 0.5–1 mm. long; lobes 4–5 x 2.5–3 mm. ovate-elliptic, acutely-cuspidate to abruptly acuminate at the apex, membranous, hyaline, very broadly winged on the keel; wings reticulately veined, minutely papillose along the margin, accrescent in fruit, up to 2 mm. broad.

Leaves petiolate, in 3–5 distant pairs, the lower pair smaller; petiole 1.5–4 mm. long; lamina 5–30 x 2.5–25 mm., broadly ovate, obtuse or minutely apiculate at the apex, rounded to subcuneate at the base, 5-nerved.
Flowers lilac or pale blue, rarely white, drying yellow, in terminal and axillary dichotomous cymes, rarely solitary; pedicel 0.5–20 mm. long; bracts 1.5–10 mm. long, linear to linear-lanceolate, acute.
Corolla tube 3.5–6.5 mm. long, broadly cylindrical, the lower portion enlarged in fruit; lobes erect, 4–6 x 2–2.5 mm., oblong-obovate, obtuse at the apex.
Stamens inserted 0.5–1 mm. below the corolla sinuses; filaments 1–2 mm. long; anthers 0.75–1 mm. long.
Ovary 2–2.5 x 1.5–2 mm., ovoid to subglobose; style 2.5–3 mm. long; stigma capitate.
Seed 0.3–0.5 mm. diam., subglobose-polyedric, faveolate.
Stem glabrous, slender, simple or branched, 4-ridged.
Capsule 4.5–6 x 3.5–4 mm., ellipsoid.
