Characteristics

Leaves spirally arranged; lamina oblong to elliptic, lanceolate or oblanceolate, (1.5)4–16(26) x (1)1.5–6.5(9) cm., ± coriaceous; apex acuminate to subcaudate; base obtuse; margin entire; both surfaces glabrous; lateral veins (3)4–6(7) pairs, loop-connected 1–5 mm. from the margin, basal pair unbranched, tertiary venation reticulate; petiole 5–15(20) mm. long, 1–2 mm. thick, epidermis usually flaking off when dry; stipules 2–10 mm. long, glabrous, caducous, sometimes subpersistent.

Receptacle subglobose to obovoid, 1–2 cm. in diam. when fresh, 0.5–1 cm. in diam. when dry, sparsely puberulous, smooth or pusticulate; wall thin; apex plane or (in large figs) prominent when dry.
Figs in pairs in the leaf axils, sessile (or on peduncles 2–9 mm. long); basal bracts 1.5–2 mm. long, persistent.
Leafy twigs 2–3(6) mm. thick, glabrous or sparsely minutely puberulous, periderm not flaking off when dry.
Shrub or tree up to 5(8) m. tall, hemi-epiphytic, sometimes a liane.
