Characteristics

Tree up to 35 m. tall, often (?) with pillar-roots.. Leafy twigs 1.5–3 mm. thick, minutely puberulous, mostly dark brown to blackish when dry.. Leaves in spirals; lamina ± coriaceous, oblong to elliptic or ± ovate, (4–)6–12(–16) × (2.5–)3–5.5(–7.5) cm., apex ± acuminate, base cordate to emarginate or truncate to rarely rounded or obtuse, margin entire; upper surface minutely puberulous on the midrib or glabrous, lower surface minutely puberulous on the main veins, sometimes glabrous; lateral veins (6–)8–12 pairs; tertiary venation reticulate; petiole (1.5–)2–4(–6) cm. long, 1.5–2 mm. thick; stipules 0.3–0.5 cm. long, up to 4 cm. on flush, with appressed (on long stipules ± patent) white hairs outside, caducous.. Figs up to 3 together on spurs up to 2 cm. long on the older wood, down to the main branches; bud-scales on the spurs glabrous or sparsely puberulous; peduncle (1–)1.5–2(–4) cm. long, ±1.5 mm. thick; basal bracts ± 2.5(–3) mm. long, caducous.. Receptacle subglobose, 2.5–4 cm. in diameter when fresh, 1.5–3 cm. when dry, minutely puberulous, greenish to pale yellow at maturity, with brown spots; wall ±1 mm. thick when dry.
