Characteristics

Leaves spirally arranged; lamina ovate, 4.5–9.5 x 3–5 cm., subcoriaceous; apex acute to ± faintly acuminate; base cordate; margin entire; superior surface sparsely puberulous, the midrib more densely so, inferior surface puberulous on the midrib, hirtellous on the lateral veins, tomentose on the smaller veins; venation above obscure, beneath prominent, lateral veins 5–8 pairs, the basal pair branched, ending at the margin just below or at the middle of the lamina, tertiary venation reticulate; petiole (1.2)3.5–5.5 cm. long, epidermis not flaking off; stipules 1–1.5 cm. long, minutely puberulous, caducous.
