Characteristics

Tree up to 10(–? 30)m. tall, terrestrial or a shrub.. Leafy twigs 3–10 mm. thick, glabrous or white puberulous, periderm not flaking off.. Leaves in spirals; lamina ± coriaceous, cordiform to broadly ovate or ± reniform, 3–18 × 3–14.5 cm., apex ± acuminate to sometimes caudate, base cordate or truncate, margin entire to repand; both surfaces glabrous; lateral veins 6–11 pairs, the basal pair branched, reaching the margin below, or sometimes at the middle of the lamina; tertiary venation partly scalariform; petiole 2.5–12 cm. long, 1–2 mm. thick, epiderm not flaking off; stipules 1–4 cm. long, glabrous or ciliolate, caducous.. Figs in pairs in the leaf-axils; peduncle 0.8–2 cm. long; basal bracts ± 2 mm. long, free parts caducous.. Receptacle obovoid to ellipsoid or subglobose, 1–1.5 cm. in diameter when fresh, 0.5–1 cm. when dry, minutely puberulous to glabrous, often with distinct ribs when dry, green with red spots at maturity.
