Characteristics

Woody liane; latex white. Roots fibrous. Leaves petiolate, slightly fleshy, entire, glabrous, lacking colleters. Inflorescence of 1–many fascicles. Corolla rotate; tube cylindrical; lobes free, imbricate at tips. Annular and corolline coronas absent; gynostegial corona staminal and composed of 5 filiform-subulate lobes inserted on corolla next to stamens. Stamens free above. Anthers 4-locular with inflexed terminal appendage; pollen granular, aggregated in rectangular tetrads, loose on spoon-shaped, sticky translator. Style-head conical-pentagonal. Follicles widely divergent, ovoid, narrow at base, hooked-acuminate, ribbed. Seeds flattened, oblong, reflexed, comose around whole seed.
