Dioecious trees or shrubs; all parts stellate-pubescent. Leaves alternate, stipulate or not, simple, entire, sinuate-dentate or 3–5-lobed, palminerved, glandular. Male inflorescences axillary near the tips of the branches, paniculate. Male flowers: calyx usually 5-lobed, lobes slightly unequal, imbricate; petals 5, rarely fewer, free at first, later becoming partially adnate; disc of 5 free or united glands; stamens as many as or up to 5 times as many as the petals, united at the base; anthers dorsifixed; pistillode 0. Female inflorescence terminal, paniculate or consisting of a solitary flower. Female flowers: calyx and corolla ± as in the ♂; disc 5-lobed; ovary 1–3-locular. Fruit a 1-seeded drupe.
