Gleichenia dicarpa R.Br.

Species

Pteridophytes > Gleicheniales > Gleicheniaceae > Gleichenia

Characteristics

Rhizome 1.5–3 mm diam., at first bearing brown lanceolate ciliate scales. Fronds of 1–4 tiers of branches, 10–200 cm or more long; lower tiers often branching, usually more than 15 cm wide. Stipes scattered along rhizome, 6–95 cm long, bearing brown lanceolate ciliate scales; rachis bearing weak brown to white often matted stellate hairs and ciliate scales. Pinnules glabrous above or with scattered hairs along costa, with sparse or dense whitish to ferruginous ciliate scales along costa below; ultimate segments 0.8–1.5 mm long, 0.8–2 mm wide, ±round, obtuse, flat or slightly convex above, pouched below; undersurface white, rarely green. Sori of 2 sporangia.
More
Like G. vulcanica, but the leaflets not copiously scaly (costae almost or quite glabrous when mature), the aperture of the concave lower surface of each segment of the lamina reduced to much less than half of the area enclosed by the outline of the segment as seen from below, owing to much swelling of the costal tissue; sporangia 2, filling the aperture.
