Characteristics

Rhizome 2–2.5 mm diam., initially with brown ±appressed ciliate scales. Frond of 1–3 tiers of branches, up to 100 cm or more long; lower tiers often branching. Stipe 12–40 cm or more long, with blackish stellate hairs when immature, smooth; rachis bearing pale to dark brown to whitish matted stellate hairs and ciliate scales. Pinnules glabrous; ultimate segments 1.2–1.5 mm long, 1–1.2 mm wide, oblong, obtuse, flat, often strongly recurved when dry; undersurface white. Sori of 2–3 (–4) sporangia.
